⚾️ It’s Baseball Season: Time to Dodge Those Diabetes Curveballs! 💫
Whoever said "the only constant in life is change" must have had diabetes, because it’s never the same day twice. Just when you think you’ve got it all figured out, diabetes throws you another curveball.
This week we’re tackling a few of them: gluten sensitivity in people with diabetes (is it real or are some folks full of 💩?), inadequate hybrid closed-loop system settings, and insulin resistance in type 2 diabetes…does it get worse with age?
You may not be able to prevent curveballs from coming, but you can at least try to stop them from hitting you square in the face!

MiniMed’s Flex Pump Gets FDA Approval |
MiniMed (formerly Medtronic) is launching its next generation of insulin pumps with the MiniMed Flex - its first-ever screenless pump. About half the size of the 780G, the Flex still houses a 300-unit reservoir and uses the same algorithm as the MiniMed 780G, but everything is controlled from your smartphone (iOS or Android) using the MiniMed app. Expected to launch this summer, the Flex will pair with the Simplera Sync and Instinct sensors, and it will work with their existing infusion sets. Flex is approved for people ages 7 and up with type 1 diabetes, as well as adults with insulin-requiring type 2 diabetes. Upgrades will be available through their MiniMed Forward program.

Wegovy Ups Its Game with a New Higher Dose |
The FDA recently approved Wegovy HD, a new injectable 7.2 mg dose that showed impressive weight loss results in clinical trials for adults with obesity. The previous highest dose of Wegovy was 2.4 mg. Both doses help reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with heart disease and overweight or obesity. Wegovy HD will be available at pharmacies nationwide this month.

FDA Approves First-Ever Weekly Insulin for Type 2 Diabetes |
Awiqli, a new once-weekly basal insulin from Novo Nordisk, was recently approved by the FDA for adults with type 2 diabetes. Instead of taking basal insulin once or twice per day, there's now an option to dose just once a week. Studies showed Awiqli works as well as daily basal for lowering A1c, and the simpler regimen could help more people stay on track with their treatment. Awiqli is already available in Europe and Canada, and is expected to launch in the U.S. in the coming months.

New Oral GLP-1 Approved for Weight Loss |
Good news for anyone who’s been curious about GLP-1s but not so excited about injections. The FDA recently approved Foundayo (orforglipron), a once-daily oral weight loss medication from Lilly. Foundayo can be taken any time of day, with or without food or water. In clinical trials, people taking the highest dose lost an average of 27 pounds. Foundayo will launch through LillyDirect on April 6, with wider pharmacy availability soon after. Pricing could make it more accessible, too: as little as $25/month with insurance (with a savings card), $149/month for self-pay starting doses, and around $50/month for eligible Medicare Part D users starting July 2026.
