Bigger Is Always Better…Unless You’re a Prostate!
Thankfully I don’t get sick often, but when I do I always do two things…test my ketones and have my GF bring home my favorite chicken tortilla soup. Since we’re officially in flu season, I wanted to highlight the similarities between diabetic ketoacidosis and flu symptoms, because if you miss the warning signs of DKA, you can get into big trouble fast.
I also wanted to talk about a very common thing that happens with men as we get older…BPH or enlarged prostate. (I now need to get an extra seat for my huge prostate when I fly Southwest!) There are lots of treatments available now including a surprising one that might get a "rise" out of you…and make your partner happy too!

DKA Prevention | Sick Day Rules

Case Study | Autoimmune Conditions
|
|
If you start experiencing unusual stiffness in your body and it’s not "down there", it could be stiff person syndrome. SPS is actually a rare autoimmune disorder that affects fewer than 5,000 people in the U.S., but it sometimes does show up in the same company as type 1 diabetes. Dr. E shares how he and his endocrinology team diagnosed one of their T1D patients with the condition.
