Your liver may not get as much of the spotlight as your pancreas when it comes to diabetes, but it still plays a major role in blood sugar management. Over time, insulin resistance can lead to fat buildup on the liver, inflammation, and liver scarring, often without any symptoms. Learn why liver disease is so common in people with diabetes, and what you can do now to stop it in its tracks.

Tzield Approved to Treat Newly Diagnosed Kids with Type 1 Diabetes
T1D | Treatments | Beta Cell Preservation |
The FDA recently approved Tzield (teplizumab) as the first treatment ever to help preserve insulin production in kids and teens ages 8-17 who’ve been recently diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. Tzield works by slowing the immune system's attack on the insulin-producing beta cells in the pancreas, helping people hold on to some of their own insulin production for a longer period of time. Until now, Tzield was only approved to delay the onset of T1D in people with stage 2 of the condition. Preserving even a small amount of insulin production can give families more time to adjust, learn, and build confidence in managing life with type 1 diabetes. |

FDA Clears Stelo as the First Over-the-Counter CGM for Kids

CGM | T2D | Kids |
Keeping tabs on blood sugar just got a whole lot easier for families. The FDA recently approved the first over-the-counter CGM for kids. Dexcom's Stelo can now be used by children two and older who are not on insulin. Stelo uses a small wearable sensor that sends glucose readings to a smartphone app every 15 minutes, giving kids and caregivers a clearer picture of blood sugar trends without fingersticks. Stelo is not meant for people on insulin because it doesn’t have real-time alerts for high and low blood sugar. For more information, visit stelo.com. |
